Today, I met with my group again to have a brainstorming session to discuss our project. The first time we met was in Vyew and then in my Elluminate classroom. We recorded the session we had in Elluminate, but for unknown reasons the recording did not work (it may have been a glitch). Being short on time and trying to juggle three very busy schedules, and Sandy’s big time zone difference, we decided to meet on Skype to talk. During our meeting we used Google Docs to outline our project, while recording it with Sreencast.

Having met with my group the first time using the tools the assignment suggested and then meeting the second time doing things differently; I feel I have a very clear perspective on the advantages of using web conferencing tools. Using a traditional web conferencing tool such as Vyew or Elluminate is definitely the way to go. Beginning able to upload or send a document to use for a meeting is a great way to keep organized. It also helps to stay on task and to concentrate on important points. Another advantage of web conferencing in my opinion is, it lets the users participate in the discussion without being distracted by note taking. One of the disadvantages of using Ellunimate is that we could not all speak at the same time.
Recording our final meeting using Skype, Google Docs, and ScreenCast all at the same time worked quite well. We were able to all speak and hear each other clearly, while editing our Google document. I have the ScreenCast account, so I made the recording while Sandy, and Suzie did the editing. The disadvantage is having three programs running on the desktop at once.
During the meeting we discussed:
- What technology we are using
- Technical aspects of how work will be completed
- A timeline of who will be doing what
- Meeting dates
Your group work has had a number of challenges (time zone, technical glitches, etc.), yet, your group's commitment to each other and to the course has provided a rich learning experience. Thank you for your hard work. I look forward to the final product!
ReplyDeleteFYI...the blog post is actually Part A (not part B). Additionally, from the recording it sounded like you all thought you needed to have a "voice" in the final presentation. That is totally fine, however, if one person is the voice-over...that is acceptable...as long as the workload is equally distributed.
